Sydney, the reef and famous coastlines deserve attention, but the best trip usually includes places that reflect how you actually like to travel — nature, food, cities, beaches or adventure.

For a first long-haul holiday from the UK, two to three weeks is a useful starting point, but the right length depends on how many regions you want to include. Trying to cover the whole country in one short visit usually creates too much travel time.
